Our story

Adesha is where West African and Western culture collide. The very name comes from an amalgamation of our founder’s West African last name, Ade, and her European first name, Sharon. We use West African ingredients for all our beauty products and handcraft them in the UK. Each cream, balm and soap is organic, cruelty-free, and, most importantly, handmade with love for all skin types. We make sure to use natural ingredients that are luxury but affordable, because everyone deserves to feel confident and love the skin they’re in.

Meet the founder

Sharon Ade loves all things natural when it comes to hair and skin care. But she became continually frustrated buying products that claimed to be formulated with natural ingredients, only to find they made up around 5% of the total recipe. Not only that, products that claimed to use shea and cocoa butter to moisturise, actually ended up leaving her skin dry and lacklustre.

Taking beauty matters into her own hands, Sharon tried some authentic shea butter from West Africa and started experimenting different ways to apply it in a consistency that worked. The result? A beautiful soft shea butter mixed with organic plant and seed-based oils that left her skin glowing and healthy. And so Adesha Beauty’s first product, Universal Hair & Body Butter, was born.

After sharing this new-found recipe with friends and family, it sewed the seed to grow this idea into a business in 2018. A year later, Sharon officially launched Adesha Beauty at a community-driven expo for local black-owned businesses in Manchester – with a mission to leave hair, skin and nails nourished and hydrated.

Since then, our products have been featured in Vogue and Tatler and we’ve been shortlisted as one of the best brands in body care in the Free From Skincare Awards 2020.

Make a #skinvestment

Adesha Beauty products can be used to soothe psoriasis, eczema, dry skin, hyperpigmentation, and other skin conditions. We don’t pair our plant and seed-based butters and oils together just because they sound nice – even though we can’t help if they do – each ingredient has been intentionally selected for its particular benefits, from natural SPF to vitamin-rich properties.

We research and formulate combinations of ingredients that complement each other and get results, from mango and shea butter to plantain and oats. Our team of product testers, each with particular skin concerns, provide us with feedback on our products before they go on sale. Adesha Beauty guarantees to nourish your skin with organic ingredients that smell good, look good, and feel great.

Our philosophy

We hold integrity as one of core values. We provide honest and concise descriptions and clear labelling to let you know what goes into each product. Community is essential to our brand, too. We collaborate with and empower women in business where we can. In line with this, we ethically source all our shea butter from female farmers in West Africa to support local communities and industry.

Sustainability is also important to us, and as a small business we try to make sure we apply our values to every part of the production process. Most importantly, we reduce our use of plastic where we can. All of our body butters are packaged in 100% recyclable glass jars.

We’re always looking at ways to improve and we’re working on a creative incentive to encourage customers to join our efforts in reducing plastic wastage.

We really appreciate your custom, so tell a friend to tell a friend and we hope to see you again soon!

With love,
